Creating a Forum for Engineering
Our vision for the Forum is that it connects a wide spectrum of society with engineering and supports the Academy’s ambition of moving engineering to the centre of society. Over time, the Forum will cement its role as the focal point for engineering in the UK.
The superb location and ample public space at 3 Carlton House Terrace provide the essential ingredients; a significant upgrading and reconfiguration of the building is urgently needed to achieve this.
Why create the Forum?
The benefits of the Academy’s move to Carlton House Terrace in late 2007 are already evident with an increased number and variety of people visiting the building.
The Forum will bring people together, with the Academy contributing its leadership role across all fields of engineering. The Forum is needed to:
-
raise the stature of engineering
-
highlight the contribution engineering makes to a strong society
-
encourage engineering talent at every level
Senior opinion formers from business, industry, academia and public service will view the Forum as a natural place to debate key issues.
Young people and their key influencers will also be attracted by an extended range of events, courses and exhibitions.
What purpose will the Forum serve?
The Forum will be a respected and neutral venue where the Academy will:
-
foster smart discussion and source expert and impartial advice on the engineering aspects of today’s global challenges
-
convey the excitement and value of engineering, inspiring the next generation of engineers
-
demonstrate the many opportunities a career in engineering offers for professional fulfillment and economic success
-
bring together the engineering community to increase its influence and impact
-

-
providing new visitor facilities (2 lifts, toilets and staircase to basement)
