The Engineering Diploma "Bringing your learning to life"

A brief introduction to engineering

Engineers and scientists are crucial for the performance and competitiveness of our country. Science, engineering and technology industries account for more than a quarter of the UK’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Engineers support businesses in areas like research and design and product development. The engineering industry already employs over 1.6 million people, and engineering employers are keen to increase their intake of new, young recruits, with all the right skills.

The Engineering Diploma and The Royal Academy of Engineering’s Role

The Royal Academy of Engineering is an independent charity that is passionate about the education of the next generation of engineers.

Our support for the 14-19 Engineering Diploma is not driven by the Government but by our desire to support the college lecturers and school teachers that are delivering the qualification. In fact it is the Royal Academy that the Government turn to when they need advice about engineering education.

We have supported centres, free of charge, as they prepared to deliver the Engineering Diploma for the first time and will continue to build relationships with centres and partner organisations up and down the country. Our aim is to listen to Engineering Diploma practitioners, identify good practice and facilitate the sharing of high quality teaching and learning resources.
