Sir Angus Paton Bursary

In 1986, Sir Angus Paton made an endowment to The Royal Academy of Engineering. Each year a bursary of £7000 is funded from this endowment, and awarded to a suitably qualified engineer enrolled on a full-time Masters course related to the environment.

The award is currently tenured for study on the MSc courses in Water and Environmental Management at the University of Surrey; Sustainable Management of the Water Environment at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and Engineering for Development at the University of Southampton.

Sir Angus Paton CMG FREng FRS

One of Britain's most distinguished civil engineers, Sir Angus worked on and managed some of the biggest construction projects around the world. His most notable achievements were the construction of the Kariba dam and hydroelectric power station on the River Zambesi, and the Indus Basin Project in Pakistan.

Sir Angus was President of the Institution of Civil Engineers 1970–1971 and Vice President of the Royal Society 1977–1978. He was one of the founding Fellows of The Fellowship of Engineering, which became The Royal Academy of Engineering in 1992.
