Visiting Professors' Scheme

Visiting Professors in Integrated System Design: How to Apply

What we are looking for is a brief outline from you, describing how you would make use of a practising engineer (with significant experience of working on complex integrated system projects), to improve the awareness and understanding of your undergraduate students about successful system integration. If you can identify a candidate visiting professor at this stage, so much the better, but it is not essential. However, you should have clear ideas on the type of candidate you will be looking for to fill the post, and also where you will be looking for him/her. Please do not prepare a detailed proposal at this stage. We shall invite those universities whose outline proposals are chosen by a panel from The Academy, to prepare detailed proposals on a non-competitive basis.

We shall only make one award to any university, and we shall be looking for collaboration across the disciplines in line with the nature of commercial integrated system projects. We should encourage you to talk with other colleagues that you feel might be interested in applying to this scheme. It may prejudice your application if we receive competing bids from the same university that appear to cover similar ground.

If you have any queries, please send an e-mail to the scheme manager Ian Bowbrick. Outline bids must be with us by March 31st 2006. We shall tell you whether your proposal has been accepted by late April.
