Schemes for Engineers in Research and Development

RAEng Research Fellowships

The Stage Two Sift Panel will be held on Monday 21 May and up to 20 candidates will be selected for interview.

The interviews will be held on Thursday 31 May and Friday 1 June. Candidates should ensure that they are available on these dates in case they are invited for interview.

The RAEng Research Fellowships are designed to promote excellence in engineering. They provide support for high-quality engineers and encourage them to develop successful academic research careers.

Applications are welcomed from outstanding researchers from all branches of engineering who are about to finish their PhD or have up to three years Post-Doctoral research experience. The scheme provides funding for five years to encourage the best researchers to remain in the academic engineering sector. In addition to the direct financial support, the scheme offers:

  • freedom to concentrate on basic research in any field of engineering

  • time to establish a track record in the field

  • the services of a mentor (a Fellow of The Academy) to offer advice and to facilitate industrial links as the research progresses

  • restrictions of your teaching and administrative duties

For further information, please refer to our guidance notes:

If you work in a 'Research Grants Office' or equivalent, and so aid your colleagues in applying to such schemes, please email research info to be added to a mailing list so we can update you directly when core rules change and new Calls for applications are announced.
